Mikala Anne Trafton
Mikala Anne Trafton, 39, died Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Maine Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born on April 18, 1983 in Portland, ME, a daughter of David J. Trafton of Portland, ME, and Jean (Couture) Aranson of Freeport, ME. She attended Portland schools, graduating from Deering High School.
Mikala worked as a champagne hostess for 17 years at the former Platinum Plus nightclub in Portland. On December 8, 2008, she married Anthony Webster of Windham, ME. Each considered the other the love of his and her life and best friend. They traveled extensively together to Central and South America, and to the Caribbean Islands.
Mikala had many interests. She enjoyed the great outdoors, kayaking, and paddle boarding, and held an abiding heart for animals. She loved books and was a voracious reader, which served her in good stead as a top-tier trivia player and an unbeatable afficionado of Jeopardy. She was also an amazing chef, entertaining friends and family who relished her delectables.
One of Mikalaís chief missions was working tirelessly to improve the lives of veterans. Together with Anthony, a veteran himself, Mikala volunteered at the annual summer camp for Veterans No Boundaries, a program of Maine Adaptive, led the initiative of securing parking spaces throughout the State of Maine for Purple Heart recipients, and served in Heroes-to-Heroes, a joint-venture program with Israel that pairs the most vulnerable American combat veterans suffering from PTSD and moral injury with their Israeli counterparts, in order to stop veteran suicide.
Friends and family fondly recall Mikala as being one of the kindest people they have ever known who could light up a room, and as someone absolutely devoted to her family.
Mikala is survived by her husband; parents, including step-father, Robert Aranson of Freeport, ME; brother, Dane (and wife, Amelia) of Dayton, ME; sisters, Sarah Wortheim (and husband, Daniel) of Hollis, ME, and Nedda Johnson (and husband, Scott) of Naples, ME; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mikalaís memory can be made to an animal protective charity, a veterans support organization, or a charity of oneís choosing.
